  • Cheney Needs to Shutup

Wow, I've never heard so much come out of Cheney until he left office. Maybe he should continue his shroud of secrecy like he did during his vice-presidency because he should not be dissing Powell. Powell...the kind of man that makes the Republican party look less like a Ku Klux Klan in disguise and had more balls than Obama to say that there is nothing wrong being a Muslim after a McCain supporter "accused" Obama of being a Muslim.  And seriously...Limbaugh over Powell?!!! Powell, the former four-star general, the former Secretary of State, the former and only African-American as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, etc. And Limbaugh?! what has he done for this country. Nothing except rant on the radio.

Cheney, you need to follow Bush's lead and shut the fuck up.

Cheney backs Limbaugh over Powell on GOP future

WASHINGTON – Dick Cheney made clear Sunday he'd rather follow firebrand broadcaster Rush Limbaugh than former Joint Chiefs chairman Colin Powell into political battle over the future of the Republican Party.

Even as Cheney embraced efforts to expand the party by ex-Govs. Jeb Bush of Florida and Mitt Romney of Massachusetts and the House's No. 2 Republican, Virginia Rep. Eric Cantor, the former vice president appeared to write his one-time colleague Powell out of the GOP.

Asked about recent verbal broadsides between Limbaugh and Powell, Cheney said, "If I had to choose in terms of being a Republican, I'd go with Rush Limbaugh. My take on it was Colin had already left the party. I didn't know he was still a Republican."

Powell, who was secretary of state under President George W. Bush and held the nation's top military post under President George H.W. Bush, endorsed Democrat Barack Obama for president last year. Nonetheless, since the election he has described himself as a Republican and a right-of-center conservative, though "not as right as others would like."

Cheney, citing Powell's backing of Obama over Republican nominee John McCain, said, "I assumed that that is some indication of his loyalty and his interests."

Cheney's remarks on CBS' "Face the Nation" were the latest step in his slow-motion estrangement from Powell since the two worked closely together to manage the Persian Gulf war in 1991 — Powell as the Army general who was chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and Cheney as defense secretary for the elder Bush.

Under the younger Bush, Powell initially backed action against Iraq's Saddam Hussein and delivered a famous U.N. speech laying out the U.S. case. But Powell and Cheney increasingly parted ways over the Bush administration's policies on the war and terrorism, with Cheney usually prevailing. Powell left the administration after Bush's first term.

Wading into the debate over the GOP's future, Cheney called efforts by George W. Bush's brother Jeb, along with Cantor and Romney, as "a good thing to do," but set a limit on how far the party should go.

"The suggestion our Democratic friends always make is somehow if you Republicans were just more like Democrats, you'd win elections," Cheney said. "Well, I don't buy that. We win elections when we have good solid conservative principles to run upon."

Powell has argued the Republican Party needs to move toward the center and reach out to growing black, Hispanic and Asian communities, but instead has been shrinking because it hasn't changed as the country changed in the face of economic distress. "Americans are looking for more government in their life, not less," Powell said last week.

For months, Powell has urged the party to turn away from the acid-tongued Limbaugh. "I think what Rush does as an entertainer diminishes the party and intrudes or inserts into our public life a kind of nastiness that we would be better to do without," Powell said.

"Colin Powell is just another liberal," Limbaugh retorted. "What Colin Powell needs to do is close the loop and become a Democrat." Limbaugh said Powell is "just mad at me because I'm the one person in the country that had the guts to explain his endorsement of Obama. It was purely and solely based on race." Both Powell and Obama are black.

  • Why Stupid People Shouldn't Have Guns

I love these gun-loving Americans. They love their guns so much they are willing to kill innocent people over it. Where is the logic in that?

Gunman 'lying in wait' kills 3 Pittsburgh office

PITTSBURGH – A gunman wearing a bulletproof vest and "lying in wait" opened fire on officers responding to a domestic disturbance call Saturday, killing three of them and turning a quiet Pittsburgh street into a battlefield, police said.

Police Chief Nate Harper said the motive for the shooting isn't clear, but friends said the gunman recently had been upset about losing his job and feared the Obama administration was poised to ban guns.

Richard Poplawski, 23, met officers at the doorway and shot two of them in the head immediately, Harper said. An officer who tried to help the two also was killed.

Poplawski, armed with an assault rifle and two other guns, then held police at bay for four hours as the fallen officers were left bleeding nearby, their colleagues unable to reach them, according to police and witnesses. More than 100 rounds were fired by the SWAT teams and Poplawski, Harper said.

The three slain officers were Eric Kelly, 41, Stephen Mayhle, 29, and Paul Sciullo III, 37. Kelly had been on the force for 14 years, Mayhle and Sciullo for two years each. Another officer, Timothy McManaway, was shot in the hand and a fifth broke his leg on a fence.

Poplawski had gunshot wounds in his legs but was otherwise unharmed because he was wearing a bulletproof vest, Harper said. He was charged with three counts of homicide, aggravated assault and a weapons violation.

At 7 a.m., Sciullo and Mayhle responded to a 911 call from Poplawski's mother, who remained holed up in the basement during the entire dispute and escaped unharmed, Harper said. When they arrived at the home, Sciullo was immediately shot in the head. Mayhle, who was right behind him, was also shot in the head. "It appears he was lying in wait for the officers," Harper said.

Kelly, who was on his way home after completing his overnight shift when he heard the call for help, rushed to the scene and was killed trying to help Sciullo and Mayhle, Harper said. SWAT teams and other officers arrived and were immediately fired on as well. Don Sand, who lives across the street from Poplawski, said he was woken up by the sound of gunfire. Hunkering down behind a wall in his home, he saw the first two officers go down and then saw Kelly get shot.

"They couldn't get the scene secure enough to get to them. They were just lying there bleeding," Sand said. "By the time they secured the scene enough to get to them it was way too late."

Deputy Chief Paul Donaldson, who lives nearby, was one of the first officers to arrive. He saw Mayhle by a bush to the right of the door; Kelly was in the street and McManaway, his hand injured, was kneeling beside him, yelling that Kelly needed help. Donaldson suggested using a police van to get them. They draped a bulletproof vest on the window to protect the driver and several officers got into the van to get Kelly and McManaway. During this time, Poplawski was somehow distracted, Donaldson said. "We were fortunate that he didn't fire on us. I don't know why he was distracted, but he apparently didn't see us coming down to get them," he said. "It could have been worse."

Poplawski had feared "the Obama gun ban that's on the way" and "didn't like our rights being infringed upon," said Edward Perkovic, his best friend.

Perkovic, 22, said he got a call at work from him in which he said, "Eddie, I am going to die today. ... Tell your family I love them and I love you." Perkovic said: "I heard gunshots and he hung up. ... He sounded like he was in pain, like he got shot."

Poplawski had once tried to join the Marines, but was kicked out of boot camp after throwing a food tray at a drill sergeant, Perkovic said.

Another longtime friend, Aaron Vire, said Poplawski feared that President Barack Obama was going to take away his rights, though he said he "wasn't violently against Obama."

Vire, 23, said Poplawski once had an Internet talk show but that it wasn't successful. He said Poplawski owned an AK-47 rifle and several powerful handguns, including a .357 Magnum.

Obama has said he respects Americans' constitutional right to bear arms, but that he favors "common sense" gun laws. Gun rights advocates interpret that as meaning he would approve some curbs on assault and concealed weapons.

Poplawski had been laid off from his job at a glass factory earlier this year, said another friend, Joe DiMarco. DiMarco said he didn't know the name of the company, but knew his friend had been upset about it.

Poplawski had often fought with neighbors and had even gotten into fist fights with a couple, Sand said. "This is a relatively really quiet neighborhood except for him," Sand said. "He was just one of those kids that we knew to stay clear from."

Harper confirmed police had responded to calls from the Poplawski house several times but said the incidents were still being investigated.

Rob Gift, 45, who lives a block away, said the well-kept single-family houses with manicured lawns are home to many police officers, firefighters, paramedics and other city workers.

"It's just a very quiet neighborhood," Gift said.

  • Don't Mess with the Post Lady

Wow. I got yelled at by the post lady today.

I went downstairs in my condo complex to get my mail and it just so happened that the mail lady was stuffing everyone's boxes with their mail so the wall was wide open (our mail room is composed of a wall with everybody's mail "boxes" that you access through an individual key but the mail lady can open the wall so she could put everyone's mail in all at once). I said, "Excuse me. I see my mail is in my box." As I went to reach in to get my mail, the post lady yelled at me!!! She said, "You can't do that! I can't let you get your mail. You're going to have to wait until I"m done." God knew when that was going to be since she had columns and columns of other people's mail to fill. So I was like, "My mail is right there. I came down here to get my mail and it's right there so can I please get it?!!" She once again yelled at me with an evil eye and said, "you're going to have to wait. I'm not going to let you get your mail." Hurt and kinda surprised that she was so mean about it, I showed her my mailbox key that says 150 and I pointed to box 150 and I insisted that there was nothing to worry, "What's the big deal? Here's my mailbox key, that's my box, and that's my mail with my name on it."

She looked at me, I looked at her, and a mexican stand-off ensued. I would have left and gone, but I was in no mood to get yelled at by a post lady with a power trip. So I decided to make her day horrible if she refused again....which she did. She turned her back to me and started to sort through other people's mail and continued through her day as if I no longer existed. Ha! Bad idea. I did what my mom would do to me whenever I tried to ignore her, which is NAGGING. I started ranting about how ridiculous this was and that I can't believe I couldn't get my mail and that she was being a nazi and unreasonable, blah blah blah. I actually don't really even remember what I said to her. In any case, she slammed the wall and was like, "Geez, you couldn't have waited?!!"

Well...maybe I could have but she didn't say please. Now I fully expect my mail box to be filled with poo or something the next day. Oh well. At least I got my mail.

  • DUMB VOTERS

Maybe there should be a test on the candidates' policy so educated Americans can vote. This McCain supporter makes voting as a right seem overrated.

McCain Supporter Can't Trust Obama Because....

To McCain's credit, he took the mic away from her and you could tell the rest of the audience was laughing at this dumbass who seriously thought Obama was an Arab and that's why she can't trust him. She explains herself later in an interview that she's not the only one that thinks Obama is an Arab because she received pamphlets and letters about him. Hmmm....I wonder who wrote those racist letters?
